Everyone suffers from bad breath at one point or another. As embarrassing as it might be, it is much more common than you think. A dry mouth is one of the simplest causes of bad breath. It’s the reason many people have bad breath when they wake up in the morning. There are also times when it’s a sign of something more serious going on inside the body.
The most common cause of bad breath is a build up of bacteria within the mouth. The bacteria leads to small areas of inflammation that then release a gas or odor. The smell can be compared to that of sulfur in many cases. The underlying causes of the bacteria and inflammation may vary from person to person.
From Minor To Serious
Studies have shown that the majority of people with bad breath are suffering from some form of oral condition. This include cavities, tonsils, filling, or a gum disease. All of these things can cause an odor or lead to bacteria accumulation in the mouth. These are the most minor causes of bad breath and most of them can be easily treated.
There is also a smaller percentage of people who suffer from bad breath due to a more serious condition within the body. Health conditions that can cause bad breath include chronic bronchitis, liver disease, and diabetes. You should speak to your doctor about solutions for your bad breath if you suffer from any of the above conditions. The symptom of bad breath can usually be treated even if the underlying condition cannot.
Bad breath itself is never the disease. Bad breath is also a symptom of something else. Keep that in mind the next time someone tells you that you have bad breath. Consider what the cause may be before moving to solve the problem. It could be the body warning you of something that’s not right. Antibiotics are never a good solution for dealing with bad breath.
